Hardwood Flooring FAQs

What is the difference between solid and engineered hardwood?
Solid hardwood is milled from a single piece of wood and can be sanded and refinished multiple times. Engineered hardwood has a real wood veneer bonded to a plywood or HDF core, offering better moisture resistance and the ability to install over concrete or below grade.
How long does hardwood flooring last?
With proper care, solid hardwood floors can last 50 to 100 years. Engineered hardwood typically lasts 20 to 50 years depending on the thickness of the wear layer and how many times it can be refinished.
Can hardwood be installed in kitchens and bathrooms?
Hardwood can be installed in kitchens with caution. Engineered hardwood is a better choice for kitchens due to its moisture resistance. We generally do not recommend hardwood for full bathrooms — luxury vinyl or tile are better suited for high-moisture areas.
How soon can my hardwood installation begin?
In most cases, we can begin installation within 1-2 weeks of your consultation. For in-stock products, we may be able to start even sooner. We will work with your schedule to find the best time.
Is hardwood flooring a good investment?
Yes. Hardwood flooring is consistently rated as one of the top home improvements for return on investment. Real estate professionals report that homes with hardwood floors sell faster and often at higher prices compared to homes with other flooring types.
How do I care for my hardwood floors?
Sweep or vacuum regularly to remove dust and debris. Use a damp (not wet) mop with a hardwood-specific cleaner. Avoid excess water, high heels, and dragging furniture. Use felt pads under furniture legs and area rugs in high-traffic zones.
